Here’s my icon for those asking for me to post it

This tattoo is on my mentor, Pat MacDonald. It is a memorial tattoo for his sister. This blog stole the photo from the tattoo artist Eva Huber and did not credit her and now it’s a nameless orphan, being tossed around all over the internet where nobody knows anything about who drew it and tattooed it, the story behind the tattoo, or anything that gives a tattoo its rich meaning and value. I’ve seen several awful knockoffs of this tattoo on the same location on other people since then.Dear “Fuck Yeah Throat Tattoos” and all other blogs like it: if you love tattoos as much as you claim to, you should probably credit the artists who painstakingly draw tattoos for their clients—their clients, not the entirety of Tumblr—and stop turning tattooing into a fast-food, “gimme gimme gimme” industry where convenience is prized more highly than art or integrity.

Thank You.

I really, really appreciate everyone who’s bought a painting from me. I didn’t put a letter in all of the envelopes I’ve sent out because I was overwhelmed with all the mail correspondence that I’ve been trying to maintain but I really wish I had because it means a lot to me—the money obviously helps me out, but also the gesture, the fact that anyone likes my paintings enough to pay me for them, makes me feel good and keeps me motivated to push myself harder and to try to make better paintings.

Thanks so much to everyone who’s linked to my blog, who’s bought paintings, who’s sent me a nice message about my work, who’s contacted me asking for a tattoo shop recommendation in their area, thank you to the people who have asked if they could use one of my designs or ideas for a tattoo of their own, thanks to the people who bought more than one painting or who referred their friends to me, thank you, thank you, thank you! A million times.

These together were my twelfth tattoo. I did them on the backs of my friend Allie’s legs. I was pretty stoked to do it as 14-year-old me would never have thought I’d be tattooing Pist lyrics on one of my friends at one point.

Reppin’ CT hard!

I found this guy the other day.

Today in labor history, May 28, 1946:  At least 30,000 workers in Rochester, NY, participate in a general strike in support of the nearly 500 municipal workers who had been fired for forming a union.  The next day, the city agreed to reinstate all of the discharged workers, drop the illegal charges against arrested pickets, and recognize the workers’ right to organize and bargain collectively.

This is my great grandpa fought and died for. Everyone should strive to be more compassionate and to stick up for those who need help.

The Gospel of Thomas, saying 14

Jesus said to them, “If you fast, you will bring sin upon yourselves, and if you pray, you will be condemned, and if you give to charity, you will harm your spirits.

When you go into any region and walk about in the countryside, when people take you in, eat what they serve you and heal the sick among them.

After all, what goes into your mouth will not defile you; rather, it’s what comes out of your mouth that will defile you.”

Drinking Wine

by Tao Qian

I made my home amidst this human bustle,
Yet I hear no clamour from the carts and horses.
My friend, you ask me how this can be so?
A distant heart will tend towards like places.
From the eastern hedge, I pluck chrysanthemum flowers,
And idly look towards the southern hills.
The mountain air is beautiful day and night,
The birds fly back to roost with one another.
I know that this must have some deeper meaning,
I try to explain, but cannot find the words.
